Insuring Our Legacy
Preserving Stories That Connect Generations
Two of the best South Carlina public schools ever were 3.2 miles apart and rivals for 30 years before merging to form the Charleston super-school, West Ashley High. St. Andrew’s Parish and Middleton are gone but not forgotten. After 25-years of no longer existing, alumni are asking how do we keep our legacy and memories alive? The upcoming feature length documentary, Rocks and Razorbacks, designed for a Fall 2027 release on the SC-ETV Network tackles that question along with the pros and cons of school mergers and examines the phenomenon of nostalgia. More than anything, the film will be an emotional celebration of two schools that got it right and are truly missed.

“I love the Senior Steps. It was known that no under classmate dare put their toe on the Senior Steps or they’d be in real trouble!”
“The plays were wonderful. Fess would go to New York, come back and they’d do a performance. That was always a fun time.”

When it comes to playing basketball for Coach Jim Atkinson, he taught anybody that played on that team and wanted to survive, you had to have grit.
You gotta have a want-to-win attitude. He instilled that in me. We all learned you had to be mentally tough, physically ready to go. They ingrained it into us, Coach Atkinson, Coach Waters. It was the culture of Middleton basketball. It was remarkable to be a part of it.”
